You are bidding for original ultra-thin men’s 18k gold 1.98 mm ETERNA Delirium II Ref. 928 795-9623-68 in a fully working order, made late 1970s, from the golden age of Swiss experimentation, built around the legendary Delirium très mince project that produced some of the thinnest hand-indicating watches ever made.Built around the revolutionary ESA 999.001 quartz calibre — only 1.2 mm thick — and integrated directly into the case, this watch achieved an incredible below 2 mm total thickness, where the watch case itself doubles as the main plate of the movement. No separate chassis, no wasted height – everything integrated into a 1.98 mm silhouette that still looks like science fiction on the wrist. For nearly four decades, nothing with mechanical hands beat this thickness, until Bulgari and Richard Mille started treating “thin” like an Olympic discipline.Back in the early 1980s, Delirium watches were genuine halo products. Their list prices hovered in the stratosphere: metal so thin it flexes, tolerances measured in fractions of a millimetre, assembly done under a microscope. In the 1980s, The Delirium très mince series, was priced as a true luxury item, reportedly costing around $10,000. This made it ten times the price of a Rolex Submariner at the time, which was around $1,000.It was the pinnacle of Swiss ultra-thin quartz engineering before the world drifted toward bulkier designs.This Eterna example is beautifully preserved – a rectangular case in yellow gold with its original white double Swiss dial (Swiss on the dial and on the crystal), sharp indices on the crystal, and that unmistakable 80s restraint.
